'Superstition Vistas' to be Apache Junction's biggest project in city's history

aj-supersition

Groundbreaking for one of the East Valley's upcoming communities, Superstition Vistas, was held last week.

Developers broke ground on Superstition Vistas was held for one of the first phases of its development on Tuesday. It comes as suburbs race to house the ever-growing population within metro Phoenix.

The City of Apache Junction says it is the single largest project in its history.

"It's more than historic. It will change the face of our city and the region. We, the City of Apache Junction, are putting our unique stamp on the East Valley," said City Manager Bryant Powell.

Developers Brookfield Residential and D.R. Horton broke ground, announcing that all 275-square-miles of land will be equal in size to Gilbert, Mesa, Chandler, and Tempe combined.

The community is set to be located in a prime location to the Superstition Mountains and will offer commuters convenient access to the U.S. 60 and the Loop 202 San Tan freeway. Two commercial centers will also be created, offering essential services to residents.

First homes coming in 2022
Brookfield Residential and D.R. Horton said the first two communities being built are expected to be open in 2023. At least 40 acres for commercial use will be available upon opening. More than 70 acres will be available for outdoor and recreation space. A segment will be zoned for an elementary school and public safety facility.

"This is a big milestone for Apache Junction and the Superstition Vistas area, and we are incredibly proud to kick-off the first communities in this project," said John Bradley, President for Brookfield Residential Arizona.

Approximately 1,825 home sites will be for sale in early 2022, and officials expect approximately 10,500 homes, including townhomes, condos, and apartments will be available as the communities get completed over the next 10 years.

Developers highlight outdoor, recreational space
The City of Apache Junction is working to co-develop a 16-acre regional park within Superstition Vistas. It will house a lake, dog park, basketball courts, and a ramada. The city says it wants to have an open spot for residents to come together, no matter what time of year.

"This is a future-forward community focused on family connectivity, health, and wellness with generous outdoor and open recreational spaces," said Bradley.

Five more community parks will range between 14 to 18 acres, with about 30 one-acre neighborhood parks. Officials say the green spaces will feature basketball half-courts, benches, ramadas, and play equipment.

Residents who are outdoor enthusiasts will also enjoy four miles of hiking and exercise trails within Superstition Vistas. The routes will offer through the neighborhood, parks, and beyond.

"The thoughtful, deliberate community planning will significantly raise the bar for master-planned communities in the Phoenix marketplace, and with its unique open space designs, it will pay homage to Apache Junction's rural heritage," added Bradley.
