Public Health Director's Most Recent COVID Update

coronavirus3

On December 27, 2021 the CDC updated the COVID-19 recommended isolation and quarantine periods for the general population by shortening them to 5 days with additional guidelines. The change is based, in part, on increased knowledge regarding the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus which is thought to occur largely during the early course of the COVID illness.

For detailed guidelines regarding the changes, click here.

The main points are:
  • Isolation (when COVID-19 is confirmed) has been shortened from 10 days to 5 days, if asymptomatic, followed by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others.
  • Quarantine (when exposed to COVID-19 and not fully vaccinated or person is fully vaccinated and due for a booster but has not gotten the booster) for 5 days followed by an additional 5 days of mask-wearing.
